Another update from Carolyn! (2/17)

Dear VCS Community,

I know that I sent out a message yesterday morning but as I mentioned at the end of that message — information and expectations are a bit of a moving target these days! 

As it turns out, my message directly crossed paths with the brand new information that schools formally received from the Los Angeles County Department of Health yesterday indicating that LA County has reached the case count threshold for allowing elementary hybrid instruction. This happened more quickly than was originally anticipated by the LACDPH and we have some additional steps of our planning  process that we need to go through before sharing a timeline with the VCS community: 

• We will submit the Covid-19  Prevention Plan and COVID 19 School Guidance Checklist to various required state and local entities.  
• We have been working through the best model for hybrid instruction with a staff planning committee and have plans to talk with each staff member this week. 
• We have a Community Planning Committee meeting conversations with CPC parents on Tuesday, February 23rd. 

While it is positive news all around that the case count is declining and has reached the new threshold for offering a hybrid option, there are additional pieces to the puzzle that we are integrating into our planning; these include the timeline for educator vaccinations and the state-level legislative expectations and funding.  

We are committed to going through the processes described above and looping back to the community by the end of next week to share a plan and opportunities for community conversations. 

I hope this helps to clarify where we are in the planning process and where this new information fits into the overall picture.  As I shared in yesterday’s update: we know there is a real need for in-person offerings and are balancing that with providing the safest school setting possible in these circumstances for all stakeholders.

Estimada comunidad de VCS,

Sé que envié un mensaje ayer por la mañana, pero como mencioné al final de ese mensaje, ¡la información y las expectativas son un objetivo en movimiento en estos días!

Resulta que mi mensaje se cruzó directamente con la nueva información que las escuelas recibieron formalmente ayer del Departamento de Salud del Condado de Los Ángeles, lo que indica que el condado de Los Ángeles ha alcanzado el umbral de recuento de casos para permitir la instrucción híbrida primaria. Esto sucedió más rápido de lo que originalmente anticipó la LACDPH y tenemos algunos pasos adicionales de nuestro proceso de planificación y consulta que debemos seguir antes de compartir un cronograma con la comunidad de VCS:

• Enviaremos el Plan de Prevención de Covid-19  y la Lista de Verificación de Orientación Escolar de COVID 19 a varias entidades estatales y locales requeridas.

• Hemos estado trabajando en el mejor modelo de instrucción híbrida con un comité de planificación del personal y tenemos planes de consultar con cada miembro del personal esta semana.

Tenemos una reunión del Comité de Planificación Comunitaria para conversar con los padres de CPC el martes 23 de febrero.

• Si bien es una noticia positiva que el recuento de casos está disminuyendo y haya alcanzado el nuevo umbral para ofrecer una opción híbrida, hay piezas adicionales del rompecabezas que estamos integrando en nuestra planificación; Estos incluyen el cronograma para las vacunas de los educadores y las expectativas y los fondos legislativos a nivel estatal.

Estamos comprometidos a pasar por los procesos descritos anteriormente y regresar a la comunidad para fines de la próxima semana para compartir un plan y oportunidades para conversaciones comunitarias.

Espero que esto ayude a aclarar dónde nos encontramos en el proceso de planificación y dónde encaja esta nueva información en el panorama general. Como compartí en la actualización de ayer: sabemos que existe una necesidad real de ofertas en persona y lo estamos equilibrando con brindar el entorno más seguro posible para todas las partes interesadas.
