What a year it has been! 

I accepted the role of Executive Director of Valley Charter Schools on March 15th of 2020. While I knew we were heading into uncharted territory as a nation and world with COVID-19, I did not understand the exact nature of the challenges ahead- none of us did. Each member of our community has borne the burden of this past year in different ways.  We all experienced the loss of the routines of our daily lives and connections to others. Many of our community members experienced financial insecurity and the loss of loved ones. While it appears that we are emerging from the grip of this pandemic, I want to make sure that we recognize the impact of this year and honor the losses that many of our community members experienced. 

I also want to highlight the many bright spots and accomplishments of this year: our students felt known and cared for by our teachers and leaders; our teachers designed and delivered a high quality instructional program; we maintained safe and effective operations; we launched a hybrid program that offered all students an opportunity to learn on campus; we had amazing 5th and 8th grade culmination experiences; we stayed connected as a community through many different VCS-wide and school specific events. 

Thank you to all of our families, students, and staff for your flexibility, patience, and support as we navigated all the challenges and changes of this year.

Information and Updates:

Important COVID-19 Testing Insurance Claim Information 

We are aware that some of our families who participate in the Blue Shield PPO are receiving checks from Blue Shield with an accompanying letter stating that the client may be responsible for the remainder of the amount in the Explanation of Benefits statement. So far, we have only heard this in relation to Blue Shield PPO members, but it may end up being applicable to other PPO members with different insurance carriers as well. Two important items related to this issue: 

1. You will not receive a bill from Signal Diagnostics.  Any remaining balance that is not covered by insurance or the CARES act will be billed to the school. This is written into our memorandum of agreement with CoVerify. 
2. We recommend that you do not deposit any checks received. Our understanding is that they are the result of a billing error on CoVerify’s part. If/when we receive additional information, we will provide updates.

¡Qué año ha sido! 

Acepté el puesto de Directora Ejecutiva de Valley Charter Schools el 15 de marzo de 2020. Si bien sabía que nos dirigíamos a un territorio inexplorado como nación y mundo con COVID-19, no entendía la naturaleza exacta de los desafíos que tenía por delante, ninguno de nosotros lo sabiamos. Cada miembro de nuestra comunidad ha soportado la carga del año pasado de diferentes maneras. Todos experimentamos la pérdida de las rutinas de nuestra vida diaria y las conexiones con los demás. Muchos de los miembros de nuestra comunidad experimentaron inseguridad financiera y la pérdida de seres queridos. Si bien parece que estamos saliendo de las garras de esta pandemia, quiero asegurarme de que reconocemos el impacto de este año y honramos las pérdidas que experimentaron muchos de los miembros de nuestra comunidad. 

También quiero resaltar los muchos puntos brillantes y logros de este año: nuestros estudiantes se sintieron conocidos y cuidados por nuestros maestros y líderes; nuestros maestros diseñaron e impartieron un programa instructivo de alta calidad; mantuvimos operaciones seguras y efectivas; lanzamos un programa híbrido que ofreció a todos los estudiantes la oportunidad de aprender en el campus; tuvimos increíbles experiencias culminantes de quinto y octavo grado; nos mantuvimos conectados como comunidad a través de diferentes eventos específicos de la escuela y en todo VCS. 

Gracias a todas nuestras familias, estudiantes y personal por su flexibilidad, paciencia y apoyo mientras navegamos por todos los desafíos y cambios de este año.

Información y actualizaciones:

Información importante sobre reclamaciones de seguros para pruebas de COVID-19 

Somos conscientes de que algunas de nuestras familias que participan en PPO de Blue Shield están recibiendo cheques de Blue Shield con una carta adjunta que indica que el cliente puede ser responsable por el resto del monto en la Explicación de Declaración de beneficios. Hasta ahora, solo hemos escuchado esto en relación con los miembros de Blue Shield PPO, pero también puede ser aplicable a otros miembros de PPO con diferentes compañías de seguros. Dos elementos importantes relacionados con este problema: 

1. No recibirá una factura de Signal Diagnostics.  Cualquier saldo restante que no esté cubierto por el seguro o la ley CARES se facturará a la escuela. Esto está escrito en nuestro memorando de acuerdo con CoVerify. 
2. Le recomendamos que no deposite ningún cheque recibido. Tenemos entendido que son el resultado de un error de facturación por parte de CoVerify. Si / cuando recibamos información adicional, proporcionaremos actualizaciones.
